The Models
MERCEDES BENZ 1976 to 2000
During this period Mercedes Benz enjoyed the benefits worldwide from producing the best car ever built, the complete range being widely accepted as the best product in the market.
During this period Mercedes Benz enjoyed the benefits worldwide from producing the best car ever built, the complete range being widely accepted as the best product in the market.
Unlike now however, very few models made up the range, it being confined to the E (W123 and W124)and S class(W126)/SL class sports (W113,R107/170,R129) and by 1979 the G class- (W460) Gelaendwagen or G-Wagen, Then in 1982 the best (in our opinion) family car ever made the absolutley bomb-proof, good to look at and fun to drive/economical to run and timeless 190 (W201) which laterly evolved into the C-class (W202) range.
Each model had a number of engine variations but importantly all the engines used were Mercedes own, from 1800cc 4 cylinder through 3.0 litre straight six to muscle-powered 6 litre V8 - all good for a minimum 500,000 miles provided mininum maintenance levels are observed, (as anyone who has travelled regularly in a German Taxi will confirm).
German design, German engineering, German components, German build quality. Cars like these are no longer made on production lines, and sadly, we doubt that they ever will be again.
